HIGH GRADE BLOND CARCHARODONTOSAURUS
DINOSAUR TOOTH
"Taouz" region of the Sahara Desert, Morocco
LATE
CRETACEOUS PERIOD: 96 - 66 million years ago
Large Carcharodontosaurus
dinosaur teeth of fine quality AND LACKING RESTORATION OR ENHANCEMENT
have sharply appreciated in price and rarity. As fewer fine grade
specimens are found and more and more collectors demand them, the
logistics of their investment potential and continued appreciation is
obvious. Even so, they are still a bargain compared to equal
quality T. rex teeth with many of those specimens selling in the
thousands WITH restoration and considerable reconstruction. Fine large
Carcharodontosaurus
dinosaur teeth will continue to
escalate in price as time goes on. This
specimen being offered here is an exceptional grade with sharp and
well-defined serrations. Tooth is complete
with NO RESTORATION
and aside from a few small repairs to body fractures.
Tip is original with slight natural feeding wear from when this monster
was alive. The original enamel is present on both sides in
exceptional blond grain preservation. A
reasonably priced candidate of very high quality to augment a DINOSAUR
TOOTH collection or upgrade to a higher quality specimen such as this
one. Extra nice dinosaur tooth from the largest meat-eating
dinosaur that ever lived.
WARNING:
Many
large dinosaur teeth in the market today have been subject to extensive
enhancement and fabrication. As the prices for large specimens
continues to climb, the profits that can be gained illicitly are obvious
and unless you are well-versed in restoration and repair, even dealers
have been fooled. We have seen composites of a root
from one tooth attached to the crown of another specimen. We have
also seen massive but heavily worn
stub teeth with fabricated tips and the entire tooth stained to a
lustrous and "too good to be true" finish. This is
usually evident in such well-defined and wavy color line where the crown
color meets the lower root portion. If you see a large tooth in
today's market that is of such extraordinary perfect condition, you
should be HIGHLY SUSPECT AND GET EVERY POSSIBLE GUARANTEE OF NO
FABRICATION OR RESTORATION IN WRITING BY THE DEALER!!! Ebay is THE
worse for getting stuck by these. One dealer routinely sells
amazingly large and extraordinary specimens that are mostly
plastic. After years of doing this, he still has somehow avoided
even a NEUTRAL feedback!!!
Don't be
fooled when you are shopping for ANY large dinosaur teeth. These
are common practices of both unscrupulous and uninformed dealers.
It really pays to know who you are buying from! We see both
of these practices done quite frequently in the large tooth market and
numerous junk teeth are selling for ridiculous high prices as well as
"too good to be true" prices. (ESPECIALLY on EBAY where
fake
EVERYTHING is
RAMPANT!)
Stick with a dealer who actually has direct experience with performing
restoration work so he or she intimately KNOWS what to look for.
This is MUST! We have over two decades of experience in
this field and we WILL DISCLOSE any work done when we sell a
specimen.
Carcharodontosaurus
saharicus is the largest meat-eating dinosaur known to have ever lived on
the Earth (along with Giganotosaurus - now believed to be the same
creature). Before its discovery, Tyrannosaurus rex was thought to be
the largest but this monster
exceeds T. rex in size and really is the
"king"! Carcharodontosaurus had a massive tail,
stout body mass, and heavy bones.
Its arms were short and its hands had three fingers with sharp claws.
Carcharodontosaurus
grew up to 45 feet long, had a 6 foot skull and is estimated to have
weighed eight tons.
It had large, powerful
jaws with long, serrated, sharp teeth up to 8 inches long. Carcharodontosaurus was
larger than T. rex but its brain was smaller.
Carcharodontosaurus is so closely related to Giganotosaurus (not to T.
rex) that research now is leaning towards
Although parts of these
large carnivorous dinosaurs were discovered some time ago, their huge size
has just recently come to light. The first almost complete
Carcharodontosaurus discovered was being studied in Germany but was
destroyed by Allied bombing during WWII. A recently unearthed
specimen was reported to have the largest skull of any therapod known at
six feet in length,
larger than T. rex!
Carcharodontosaurus
remains have been found in Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya and
Niger.
