LARGE SIROCCOPTERYX TOOTH
- Tegana
Formation - Kem Kem, Morocco
EARLY
CRETACEOUS PERIOD: 145 - 112 million years ago
Pterosaur
remains were only recently identified in 1999 from the Mid-Cretaceous
deposits of the southern border of Morocco. To date, the only
pterosaur species named from Morocco is Siroccopteryx
moroccoensis.
With an estimated wingspan of nearly 20 feet, this anhanguerid ranks
amongst the largest pterosaurs known. There have been comparisons
of this creature to other anhanguerid species known from the Early
Cretaceous of Brazil. Only jaw fragments and teeth have been
discovered from Morocco and much has yet to be learned about this
fascinating and giant flying reptile from prehistory.
Intact
Siroccopteryx teeth are quite rare and
even amongst those that are intact, finding one that is in any fine
state of preservation is rare. Finding teeth that exceed
1.75" are even more rare. And finally, finding an intact
tooth with NO REPAIR AND NO RESTORATION
that measures OVER
TWO INCHES is well,
incredibly rare! Compare this beauty to all others you
can find on the market. This is a serious investment grade example. It is a
light orange and brick red enamel in an excellent degree of preservation.
The intact tip has not had much wear and is beautifully shown with no
damage. Such a rare example,
to possess every desirable trait in these teeth and to be intact IN THIS
SIZE CLASS, is
highly sought after amongst collectors. This is the largest
Siroccopteryx specimen we have offered and you can bet that you
will rarely see these teeth exceed two inches as this one does. A
very rare and highly recommended example surely to increase in value. A
LARGE EXAMPLE WAY BEYOND IN QUALITY TO WHAT IS AVAILABLE ON THE MARKET!
2.15" long along
the curve
