HIGHLY
UNCOMMON FINE GRADE INTACT AUBLYSODON TYRANNOSAUR PRE-MAXILLARY TOOTH
Hell Creek Formation - South
Dakota, U.S.A.
LATE
CRETACEOUS PERIOD: 68 - 65 million years ago
All
tyrannosaur teeth now fetch
steep prices reflecting their rarity and market demand. No type of
dinosaur commands more respect and fascination than the members of the
tyrannosaur family. Without question, fine quality teeth of these
dinosaurs will steadily appreciate year after year as limited legal
collecting regions in the United States continue to be scavenged and
produce less and less fine specimens as time goes on. This is
an uncommon tooth both in species and in quality. It is a
pre-maxillary specimen from the little known Tyrannosaur dinosaur
family, Aubsylodon. Very
seldom are fossils from this tyrannosaur offered and when they are, they
are usually rather poor quality teeth with bad enamel.
This is a very high grade example with dense enamel and top preservation
(much better than appears in photos). Light brown
color and luster is 100% natural and superb. The entire crown is
complete without any
damage and the tooth
was found INTACT.
This tooth came from the front of the jaws where they have a D-shaped
cross-section instead of being laterally compressed. Tooth
has NO REPAIR
and NO
RESTORATION or FABRICATION.
This is definitely a prize
specimen and recommended for any collection showcasing rare, uncommon
and finest grade fossils.
The name
AUBLYSODON means "backward tooth" and refers to the odd-shaped
dentition of this predatory therapod dinosaur named in 1868 by
paleontologist J. Leidy. The only remains ever discovered amount
to teeth and partial skull elements. Controversy surrounds the
understanding of this meat-eater but it is a member of the Tyrannosaurid
family of dinosaurs. Estimated length is 15 feet.
