This is an exceptional fossil negative impression of a Paramblypterus duvernoyi fish. The anatomical detail is the finest we have ever seen in these fish. It almost looks as if the fish is alive. Fin and scale detail is beyond remarkable! Dark black and orange is natural with a protective clear sealer only applied to protect its fragile nature. The unique shape of the primitive scales are wonderfully preserved and visible. Fine specimens of this fish have become increasingly difficult due to the ban on collecting. The Paramblypterus fish was a primitive osteichthyan (bony fish) and a member of the actinopterygians or ray-finned fish.
