ISURUS
HASTALIS ( EXTINCT WHITE SHARK ) TOOTH FROM RARE LOCATION
Sand
Quarry - Liessel (North Brabant), Holland
LOWER
MIOCENE PERIOD: 23 million years ago
This giant and
spectacular fossil tooth is of the extinct Mako shark called Isurus
hastalis. This prehistoric shark is a member of the White Shark
family. Teeth from Isurus hastalis look remarkably similar to the
modern Great White Shark less the serrations. Little is known
about this species and it is classified in the genus Isurus (Mako) due
to its characteristic smooth edges. Some consider this shark the
"Grandfather of the Great White".
This beautiful
specimen is one of the finest teeth we have ever see come from this
site. It is a stunning GRADE 10 collector quality specimen and
highly recommended for advanced shark tooth collections from unique
world sites. This tooth is a very large example as well as
beautifully preserved. It is a lateral tooth which comes from the
side of the jaw and it is from a highly unusual location. From
an old private European collection, this specimen was acquired from the
original prospector who retrieved this fine example from a sand quarry
in Liessel, Holland. The enamel is beautifully patterned with
warm silver and bronze tones over a dark charcoal base. There is
NO REPAIR AND NO
RESTORATION. Perfect for the
collector looking for exotic specimens. THIS
IS THE SECOND AND FINAL ONE WE WILL BE LISTING FROM THIS COLLECTION.
The tooth is completely natural and
genuine with no enhancement. In most cases,
exceptionally large and rare teeth are in less than desirable condition
but it is their sheer size that makes them in demand. Here is a
tooth that puts most teeth to shame even in sizes much smaller than it
is.
ULTRA-RARE
PRESERVATION FROM UNIQUE SITE NOT COMMERCIALLY PREVALENT - RECOMMENDED!!!
