True
Grade 10 Megalodon
shark teeth are very rare to come across in
the market and for literal buckets of lesser quality teeth, you will
hardly find teeth in this highest category that honestly lack any repair
or restoration. Megalodon teeth from the southeastern United
States, in this top category are much higher priced than your typical,
worn commercial grade teeth but it is the finest U.S. teeth that are
honestly rare and the insatiable collector demand for the highest grade
specimens far exceeds what is discovered any more or offered for sale in
today's market. It is the rarest and finest Megalodon teeth from
the southeastern United States that have, and will continue to prove
themselves as amongst the most promising investments of any rare
collectibles.
With its
broad meat-shearing profile, this beautifully preserved tooth is from
the front of the upper jaw. These teeth acted as butcher knives
sawing down on the Megalodon victim's body as the narrower lower jaw
teeth at the front acted as forks, holding the prey in place. This
spectacular specimen features no blade nicks and only the lightest
feeding wear on some serrations. Entire cutting edge is sharp and
crisp with stunning detail to the fine serrations down both sides to the
root. The tip is complete and intact with serration detail plainly
seen and very sharp. Bourlette is complete. Root is intact,
very heavy and dense. Enamel is lustrous and exhibits a
strong chatoyant silver blue-green color with a highly aesthetic blush
of black on the display side tip. We are known for our
quality Megalodon teeth and this giant and rare beauty
exemplifies the type of specimens we prefer to focus on offering to our
discriminating clientele. Of course, this specimen has absolutely NO
REPAIR AND NO RESTORATION.
Megalodon
teeth found in rivers are almost always heavily eroded and worn from the
high energy environment in which they were subjected to. They
usually have dull, sand-blasted enamel, peeling back from the
core. The roots are often damaged and the color is almost always
the boring, common black. This
tooth is amongst the finest investment grade Megalodon teeth we have
offered. We GUARANTEE NO
RESTORATION AND NO REPAIR of any kind to this rare specimen.
While we strictly avoid teeth with restoration, Caveat emptor as many
teeth in dealers' inventories in this size class have SOME
restoration. VERY highly recommended for a choice grade fossil Megalodon
tooth.
At a length of 52 feet
and weighing in excess of 60 tons, Carcharocles megalodon was the second
largest predator that ever existed on this planet, the largest being the
sperm whale. Megalodon was larger and heavier than T. rex.
Scientific reconstructions of this shark estimate the dorsal fin 5.5
feet tall, the pectoral fins at 10 feet in length and the tail over 12
feet high. If you were unfortunate enough to have a megalodon swim
over you, the pectoral fins would measure 30 feet from tip to tip with a
torso in excess of 10 feet thick! The jaws were so large that
this shark would be able to swallow a Rhinoceros whole. A
predator this size would have most likely fed on large marine
vertebrates, especially whales. Fossil teeth have been found in
excess of 7 inches in length! Megalodon teeth are similar in
geometry to the modern White Shark and scientists are still passionately
divided on the origin of the two species and if megalodon is related to
the modern white shark. It is also not fully understood why this
giant killer became extinct but we can all be glad it is. A day at
the beach just wouldn't be what it is today!
