Despite the amazing, fossil-rich deposits of Morocco, North Africa, nearly everything you see on the market is fake or heavily altered. This specimen was acquired by the original collector unprepared and prepared in a natural manner unlike most which are heavily restored. The specimen is nearly as natural as it gets other than splitting the rock open to reveal the fossil. Since natural-state trilobite fossils from Morocco are so scarce on the public market, this is a great opportunity to add one to your collection.
This is an asaphid trilobite and it remains on its original thick block of fossil-rich limestone. The front of the head was a natural cliff face so there is some erosion from exposure to that region but the fossil is in otherwise excellent condition. It does not even have any repair! The rock matrix is rich with many other parts of other asaphid trilobites, indicating this piece is a remnant from a mass-extinction event whereby many of these organisms were buried simultaneously.
